In a move to expand its presence in the mobile gaming space, Netflix has revealed that it plans to add 40 more games to its collection, with a specific focus on creating games that will appeal to its millions of users.

Among the new games teased is Too Hot to Handle, which is a follow-up to the successful dating show game developed by Nanobit. Netflix has also announced a collaboration with Super Evil Megacorp to develop an exclusive game based on a new Netflix IP. Super Evil Megacorp is best known for its popular 5v5 MOBA mobile game, Vainglory.

Additionally, Netflix has teamed up with Ubisoft to release three exclusive games, with Mighty Quest: Rogue Palace scheduled to launch on April 18. Monument Valley and its sequel will also be added to the game collection next year. The company has 70 games currently in development with its partners, and 16 games being worked on by its internal studios, with new games promised every month for the remainder of 2023.

The company announced its gaming ambitions in a blog post stating, “It’s been a little more than a year since we launched games on Netflix to bring even more entertainment to our members as part of their Netflix subscription. In this short time, we’ve released 55 games, with about 40 more slated for later this year and 70 in development with our partners. That’s in addition to the 16 games currently being developed by our in-house game studios. Our goal is to develop a broad portfolio of games — in different genres and formats — because we believe everyone can find joy in games if they discover the one (or many!) that is right for them.”

Although the engagement rate for gaming content on Netflix is currently only at one per cent of users, the company remains optimistic about the potential growth of members who will enjoy and play its games. While Netflix is considering cloud gaming, its primary focus is on mobile platforms. One of the main keys to Netflix Games’ growth plan is to ensure that more people are aware that they can play fantastic games as part of their subscription.

Netflix aims to offer a range of gaming experiences, including recognisable titles, daily-play games, indie games, award-winning hits, RPGs, narrative adventures, and puzzle games. However, it remains to be seen whether the company’s ambitious entry into gaming will be successful in the long term.
