Nepali, Assamese communities celebrate Jamashtami

Kohima, Aug. 30 (EMN): Joining the rest of the country, North Eastern Region Service Nepali Association (NERSNA) and Kohima Sahitya Sabha (KSS) jointly celebrated Janmashtami at the latter’s bhavan in the state capital on Monday evening. 

Interacting with Eastern Mirror at the venue, Chandhan Changmai, president of KSS, informed that devotees from both Nepali and Assamese communities in the district including young and old alike had gathered to celebrate the Hindu festival which marks the birth of Lord Krishna. 

KSS is an Assamese-based socio-literary cultural organisation which was established during 1895 in Kohima. 

Tekraj Sharma, secretary of NERSNA, apprised that Janmashtami would be marked by worship dances and songs in the evening, adding that ‘prasad’ would be offered to the devotees after the puja ceremony.

Informing that only limited people had been invited to the festival owing to the prevailing situation, the associations stated that Covid appropriate behaviours was being followed while celebrating the occasion.
