DIMAPUR — Describing the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as a comprehensive document, which is more practical, job and skill-oriented, president of Nagaland Education Association (NEA), Dr. Zavise Rume, expressed that such education system would empower children to generate knowledge through practice and experience.
Dr. Rume stated this during a panel discussion on the vision of NEP 2020, organised by NEA at Morung Hall of the Directorate of School Education in Kohima on Saturday.
He highlighted that the panel discussion was organised as an academic forum to gain a deeper understanding of the policies, particularly the vision of NEP, stated a DIPR report.
He stated that the discussion would focus on the vision, specifically in the context of Nagaland, and how the state could achieve its goals as outlined in the NEP 2020.
Describing NEP 2020 as an ambitious re-imagination of India's education system, Dr. Rume eulogised it as a farsighted policy statement aimed at transforming the country into a modern, progressive, and equitable society.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]He further described NEP as a comprehensive document, which provided broad guidelines for the effective implementation of education policies and programmes in India.
Dr. Rume opined that NEP 2020 was a response to the people's demand for a new education system that is more practical, job-oriented, and skill-oriented. He added that such an education system would empower children to generate knowledge through practice and experience.
Encouraging participants to discuss strategies for producing skilled manpower professionals in Nagaland, Dr. Rume emphasised on the need for radical changes not only in education but also in attitudes towards values, words, and skills within the state.
He proposed that indigenous knowledge could serve as the foundation for modern education in Nagaland by utilising the Naga ethos of pragmatism to improve and promote the state's educational system.
The panelists of the discussion included associate professor of Education at Nagaland University, Dr. Khotole Khieya; associate professor at SCTE, Dr. Bendangyapangla; and deputy director of Higher Education, Dr. Medonggoi Rhakho.
