DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor, La. Ganesan, on Thursday said that the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents a transformative initiative aimed at revolutionising the education landscape of the nation.

The governor emphasised that NEP 2020 is a visionary document that recognises the challenges and shortcomings of the existing system and proposes bold and innovative solutions to address them.

Ganesan was addressing a seminar on ‘New Education Policy of India and the enhancement of the higher education institutions’ held at Prof. Mool Chand Sharma auditorium, Central University of Haryana, an update from Raj Bhavan stated.

He underscored that one of the key pillars of the NEP 2020 was its emphasis on promoting holistic development and lifelong learning– that education is not only just about acquiring knowledge but also about developing the skills, values and attitudes that are essential for success in the 21st century.

“The policy seeks to foster creativity, critical thinking, communication skills, and social-emotional learning, ensuring that every learner is equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern world,” Ganesan said.

To this end, the governor said that the policy underscored the importance of vocational education, internships and apprenticeships, providing students with real-world experience and practical skills that are in high demand in the job market.

In addition to foundational skills, Ganesan said that NEP 2020 also places a strong emphasis on experiential learning and the integration of technology in education. He disclosed that it advocates for a more hands-on, inquiry-based approach that encourages active engagement and problem-solving skills.

By leveraging technology, he pointed out that NEP 2020 aims to make learning more accessible, interactive and personalised, thereby catering to the diverse learning needs of students.

He went on to state that NEP 2020 seeks to bridge the gap between education and employability by ensuring that the skills imparted in schools and colleges are aligned with the demands of the job market.

“By 2047, we envision a future where educational disparities are significantly reduced and every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to receive a high-quality education,” the governor added.
