Dimapur, Feb. 9 (EMN): A community seed bank, initiated by the Chizami Women Society with the support of North East Network (NEN), was launched at Chizami village on Feb. 9. This was informed by the women society on Fri.
Head GB Lhikhalo Akami in his speech lauded the noble initiative of the Chizami Women Society and blessed the effort.
Speaking on the importance of the bank, programme manager of NEN Nagaland, Wekoweu Tsuhah said ‘this humble yet significant initiative of the women society will go a long way in safeguarding the genetic diversity and traditional knowledge of community, will ensure food, nutritional and ecological securities.’
Stating that this will further strengthen community cohesion, she encouraged the community to support and participate in the initiative in order to realise the true meaning of the seed bank.
Prior to the inauguration of the bank, a weekly bazaar, initiated by the women society was also inaugurated by Sub-Divisional officer (civil) Renbomo Ezung at Chizami town.
