Dimapur, Aug. 12 (EMN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences & Research (NEISSR) welcomed new students into the institution with a formal programme that was conducted on August 9 at the institution.
The institution issued a press release to the media on Monday informing about the programme.
At the programme, the seniors of the institute organized a “welcoming feast with dance and songs,” the press release stated.
Dr. Fr. CP Anto, the principal of the college, urged the students to be “happy and be proud” to be indigenous, the updates stated. He spoke also about the world’s indigenous people. He referenced the UN General Assembly resolution in 1994 which recognised the rights and culture of the indigenous peoples around the world, the press release stated.
In his message to the new students, the principal emphasized on the purpose of life and how the NEISSR translates them into “the culture of happiness, the culture of peace and the culture of health,” the organisers quoted him as having said.
“The culture of happiness is to be authentically happy oneself and make others happy. Happiness is not measured and attributed to the material aspects of life alone but from a sense of authentic fulfilment of the human needs. The culture of peace begins with respect for all lives and dignity of human beings without any discrimination. It comes through reconciliation. And the culture of health is to living a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
Anto also urged the students to recognise their passion for ‘doing something which transform them’ and others. He encouraged the students to enjoy social work studies and to accomplish something more than getting into jobs during the course of their studies.
Further, he exhorted the students to promote the culture of happiness, peace and health as their social and political responsibility, the press release stated.
