DIMAPUR — In an endeavour to catalyse positive change and foster holistic development, 68 trainees of MSW second semester and 24 trainees of BSW fourth semester at North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chumoukedima, embarked on an “immersive journey” to Mezoma village, Kohima district, and Zhavame village, Phek district, respectively.

From Jan. 31 to Feb. 9, the trainees experienced the transformative rural camp, driven by their commitment to unravelling the intricacies of rural social studies and nurturing self-development and interpersonal bonds through immersive group living, an update from NEISSR stated.

Guided by the theme “Leaving no one behind,” the students wholeheartedly embraced their mission, aligning it with the noble objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which advocates for “Quality Education.”

“This noble undertaking served as a beacon of hope, poised to uplift and empower rural communities through educational advancement, thereby fostering a brighter and more inclusive future for all.

“The camp’s meticulously curated itinerary was as diverse as it was enriching, offering a plethora of activities meticulously designed to leave an indelible impact on both participants and the communities they served,” it stated.

From impactful cleanliness drives aimed at enhancing environmental consciousness to insightful household surveys aimed at understanding community needs and aspirations, every endeavour was imbued with a sense of purpose and dedication to the greater good, it stated.

The camp also served as a platform for thought-provoking awareness programmes centred around SDG quality education, wherein students and community members engaged in meaningful dialogue and exchange of ideas, fostering mutual understanding and collective empowerment.

Cultural exchanges further enriched the experience, as participants immersed themselves in the vibrant tapestry of local traditions and customs, celebrating diversity and unity in equal measure.

It went on to mention that interactive sessions with village leaders provided invaluable insights into the socio-economic fabric of the community, facilitating meaningful collaborations and laying the groundwork for sustainable development initiatives.

Explorations of historical landmarks offered a glimpse into the rich tapestry of the region’s heritage, fostering a deep appreciation for its storied past and a sense of collective pride.

“The pinnacle of the camp experience was undoubtedly the exhilarating ascent of Mount Kapamodzṻ, Nagaland’s fourth highest peak, where students not only conquered physical challenges but also forged enduring bonds of camaraderie and shared achievement, transcending barriers and uniting in the pursuit of a common goal,” it stated.

It further stated that the transformative initiative stands as a testament to NEISSR’s unwavering commitment to community engagement, sustainable development, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge that transcends boundaries.

“As the echoes of this impactful journey resonate far and wide, they serve as a powerful reminder of the profound potential inherent within each individual to effect positive change and build a brighter tomorrow for generations to come,” the updated stated.
