Dimapur, Aug. 5 (EMN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) at Dimapur ‘inaugurated’ on August 5 its academic session for 2019-2020.
The institution issued a press release to the media on Monday informing about the programme. The function was organised to welcome and induct “new batch of MSW 2019-2021” besides introducing ‘specialisation fields of academic and professional development’ for the final year batch of 2018-2020, the press release stated.
In his address at the event, the principal of the NEISSR Dr. Fr. CP Anto said Nagaland is one of the most beautiful states in Northeast India and a land of festivals with friendly and open-minded people with committed values.
While the Naga society originally was a classless and casteless culture, the socio political situation is experiencing much turbulence due to various concerns with the passage of time, he said.
“But today a class system is engaging (sic) with materialism as an epicentre, striving to accumulate wealth and prominent status. There is also an increased rate of educated unemployed youths. Thus, in order to curb these issues there is a need for social work intervention in all these spheres,” the updates quoted him as having said at the event.
Sr. Pramila Lobo, coordinator of the Domestic Workers Movement, also spoke at the event, appreciating the students for choosing social work as their profession. She urged the students to play their role as social workers, the updates stated.
Ela, director of nongovernmental welfare organisation Prodigal’s Home also addressed the event. “Every community has a work to be done, every nation has wound to be healed and every heart has a power to do it,” she said, exhorting students to complete their MSW and contribute to the society as there is much to be done in the community.
‘We cannot lay back and just remain stagnant but have to give our best in whatever field we are called to contribute. When we give our best, God does his part and help us,’ the updates quoted her as having told the gathering.
