NEISSR conducts ‘Rural camp’ for MSW students in Zunheboto

Master of Social Work students of NEISSR and students of St. Paul School, Akuhaito town, during an awareness programme on health and hygiene held on March 17.

Dimapur: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Dimapur, conducted a 10-day ‘Rural Camp’ for its Master of Social Work students (second semester) at Rotomi village under Zunheboto district.

The MSW students on March 17 visited St. Paul School, Akuhaito town, and Government Middle School, Rotomi village, and organised awareness programmes on health and hygiene and also conducted various interactive activities based on learning sessions, an update informed.

Abel Z Chophy, a MSW 2nd semester student, who spoke on the importance of health and hygiene, underscored the need to maintain a healthy lifestyle such as using clean water for consumption and keeping the surrounding clean in order to guard against germs and bacteria.

He also encouraged the students to keep their hands clean by washing them properly and on a daily basis.

Another MSW student Juli Zhimomi, took a session on career guidance where she gave tip on how to be a good public speaker. Zhimomi highlighted on the importance of body language, active listening skills and confidence building.

Quoting Nelson Mandela’s” Education is the most powerful weapon with which you can use to change the world,” she encouraged the students to study well and make a difference in the world through their presence.

The MSW students also conducted different types of activities and games with an aim to boost the confidence level of the school students, to let them experience and learn new sets of skills, comprehend their socialisation aspect with others, importance of effective communication, prevent peer relationship conflict and the significance of active listening.

The visit exposed the social work trainees to school social work intervention. Altogether 142 school students participated in the programme, it stated.
