NEISSR annual sports week concludes

Dimapur, September 24: North East Institute of Social Science & Research (NEISSR) organised its annual sports week from September 22 to 24 at the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Campus, Dimapur. The sports event was declared opened by Dr. Policarp Xalxo, Principal of Salesian College of Higher Education, as the chief guest. Anil, branch manager, South Indian Bank, Dimapur, was the guest of honour of the opening ceremony. Dr. Xalxo, while addressing the gathering said, ‘Sport is an area where the indomitable spirit of human are exhibited. It is a sheer excitement to see people competing in different field of sports. Many a times the winner is chosen from among equally strong performances which makes it difficult to segregate the winner from the loser as all the competitors give their all till the end’. He exhorted the students that as individuals, who are studying about society and social work, the annual sporting event would help them to think and develop a spirit in the fight against odds and injustice in their journey as social workers. Dr. CP Anto, Principal of NEISSR, in his welcome address, spoke on the need of developing a spirit of healthy competition among the students through sports. ‘In a society where cut throat competition exist; there is every chance that people try to get the better of the other through every possible means. Thus, competing fairly with the human values and principle in mind is very much essential for the growth of our society,’ he said. He further asserted that sports are not just to be enjoyed but it should teach us to compete fairly. During the three day event, students grouped under Patkai, Saramati, Tiyo and Japfu named after the mountain peaks of Nagaland competed in different disciplines.
