Kohima, Oct. 21 (EMN):
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday inaugurated several facilities, including farmer’s market, children’s park, primary health centre, cultural hall and traditional gate at Piphema village under Chümoukedima district.

He said many programmes and plans fail in villages because of lack of leadership, disunity and mismanagement of funds sanctioned by the government but lauded the people of Piphema for ensuring that the projects became a reality for the betterment of the people.

“Such successful projects are a sign of unity and harmony amongst people,” he said while acknowledging the department, individuals and those responsible for the completion of the facilities which were officially opened to the public under the banner of Piphema Khenu Krüta Krotho (PKKK).

While expressing satisfaction on the quality of the infrastructure, he said the people of Piphema and neighbouring villages should act as the custodians of the facilities which will cater to the needs of travelers taking the national highway.

“We should compete with one another in doing good deeds,” Rio said, adding that Piphema people had set a good example for others to emulate.

He also lauded the contribution of the people towards a Japanese project in the area. However, he suggested improvising the traditional gate by giving more traditional touch and adding designs as well as Naga motives besides planting trees for shade.

On the farmer’s market, he said it could be popularized exclusively selling organic products. He highlighted the need to provide sufficient water supply for the villagers and those running hotels along the national highway at Phiphema.

The chief minister also assured government assistance to farmers who take up livestock farming.
