Dimapur, Jan. 11(EMN): The secretary general of Janata Dal (United) Nagaland, Kitoho S Rotokha, has underscored the need to preserve Naga identity and integrity.
The state JD(U) secretary general said that while Nagas must go forward and be progressive, they must always remember their roots.
‘With the advancement of technologies, one needs to adjust to the modern way of life, but should never forget one’s roots and identity,’ Rotokha said.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of the Chümoukedima District GBs’ Association (CDGBA) building at DC complex, Chümoukedima, on Wednesday.
Describing the GBs as “the custodian of customary laws,” he also encouraged the GBs to continue reforming their identities by drawing from the rich cultures and traditions of Nagas. While reminding that that the role of rural GBs and urban GBs are different and should not be mixed up, Rotokha further exhorted the GBs not to function under the voice of other higher officials.
President of CDGBA, Rokovitso Kuotsu, in his presidential address, thanked the government and other organisations for supporting the construction of the building.
He also thanked the chief guest for his financial donation to repair and renovate the building, and adding that his contribution should ‘never be forgotten.’
ADC of Chumoukedima, Kuzonyi Wideo, in his short speech, sought the support and advice of the GBs to carry out a clean election for the welfare of the people.
Short speeches were also delivered by the representatives of various GB units.
The joint secretary of CDGBA, Gwasanlo Kent, chaired the programme, while an invocation was said by the associate pastor of Chümoukedima Ao Baptist Church, Aomar, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the CDGBA vice president, Akang Ao.
