Imphal, Jan. 21 (EMN): Speaking on the occasion of Manipur’s 50th Statehood Day on Friday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed the need to change ourselves first to bring change and take the state forward.

He said that with every Statehood Day, the development and its requirements needs to be assessed.

The state celebrated its statehood day with a march past parade at the 1st Manipur Rifles parade ground in Imphal, wherein the chief minister inspected the parade and received the salute from the contingents including Manipur Rifles battalion, Indian Reserve Battalion, civil police etc.

On the development activities, the CM proudly asserted that one can compare the changes in the previous years and BJP-led government’s five years tenure in the state based on the records.

Biren Singh also stated that the attainment of statehood on January 21, 1972 was a landmark in history. It fulfilled the long cherished dream of the people to empower themselves to shape their own destiny within the framework of the Constitution of India.

He therefore, urged the people to work relentlessly towards building a progressive and peaceful Manipur and foster greater sense of brotherhood among all communities.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Biren Singh also released a commemorative postage stamp, while PHED Executive Engineer, Chamdanlung Rongmei was awarded for his dedication and effort in the successful implementation of the Prime Minister’s Jal Jeevan Mission in Kamjong district.
