Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): Nagaland has reported nearly 100 Covid-19 cases with “variants of concern”, according to an update from the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
A total of 98 samples from the state were sent to NIBG, Kalyani in West Bengal for whole genome sequencing, out of which 93 were of the Delta variant (B.1.617.2), two Kappa variant (B.1.617.1) and one Alpha variant (B.1.1.7), while results of two samples were yet to be received.
“As all are aware that the Delta variant is more infectious, public are advised to continue to strictly adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour and vaccinate,” read the update issued on Friday.
The Health department added that it would continue to send more samples for whole genome sequencing regularly.
It may be mentioned that the Delta and Kappa variants, which were first identified in India, and the Alpha variant, which was first found in the UK, have been categorised as “variants of concern”.
