NE tribals to form joint body

THE leaders of various movements and committees of the North East region after prolonged consultations and discussions resolved to set up a strong body to be christened Joint Action Forum (JAF) of North East Region Tribals Parliament (NERTP) in the month of January or February 2014 to share the grievances of the tribals of the region. They took the decision at the 2nd consultative meet for new separate state demand by tribals of North East India held in Guwahati on December 5.
The meeting also resolved to demand reorganization of north eastern states to ensure safeguard of the tribals peoples’ rights and protection of the land of those tribals living in different states in the region.
The Joint Action Forum and the Joint Action Committee will launch series agitational programmes to uphold the constitutional and democratic rights after the proposed NE Parliament is over. The Tribals Parliament will be held in the month of January or February, 2014.
Also, the meeting selected the convener and co-convenors for the NE States Reorganisation Demand Committee (NE-SRDC). Rabiram Narjary (Bodoland), Assam is convener of the committee while the co-conveners are Robindra Rongpi (Karbi Anglong), Assam, Bidyut Debbarma (Tripura), Tripura, Puni Ashuli Arche (Sccutland), Manipur and LB Sona (Sccutland), Manipur.
The meeting was attended by Promod Boro, president, All Bodo Students Union, as seasonal chairman of the meeting. Others who attendees were Robindra Rongpi, general secretary, Hill State Democratic Party, Karbi Anglong, Assam, Joel Lorho, president, Tribal People’s Organisation of Manipur, Bidyut Debbarma, assistant general secretary, Tripura (IPFT) as seasonal secretary of the meeting, LK Peter, secretary (Admin), Tribal People’s Organisation of Manipur, Ajit Debbarma, convener, YTA, Tripura, Puni Ashuli Arche, convener, Separate Hill Tribal Area Administration Demand Committee, Sccutland state, Manipur, Paul Debbarma, president, Borok Society, Tripura and PK Show, executive member, Tribal People’s Organisation of Manipur.
Hosted by the Bodos at Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Guwahati, the meeting was convened by Puni Ashuli Arche, convener, Tribal People’s Organisation of Manipur.
The first consultative meeting for New Separate States Demand Committee of NE Region was also held in Guwahati on November 19.
