NE Region & State Taekwondo C’ship underway

The 1st Northeast Region and 2nd State Level Taekwondo Championship, 2014 got underway today here at Dimapur Club, Midland, Dimapur.
The two-day tournament was graced by Taekwondo World Champion Master Sandeep Surya, President, Taekwondo Board of India. Speaking on the occasion Surya lauded the Faith in Action team for bringing laurel to the country in the World Hanmadang Taekwondo Championship at South Korea this year and for organising events in the region for development of budding players.“I am glad to see, especially young kids and girls, taking part in high spirits”, Surya told Eastern Mirror. Taekwondo is very important not only as a self defence but it helps one to maintained a discipline life, he said while adding that government and private organisations should give efforts to encourage it so that India can produce quality number of players in future.
Expressing disappointment for not getting any medal in the recent Asian Games, Surya maintained they are hopeful to get some in forthcoming Olympic Games. For this, seminar on Kukkiwon International Master Course from South Korea will be held at Surat from November 23 to 29, 2014, he said. “Till now we play in traditional style. But after the Master Coach seminar we will be to train with latest technique”, he said.
Altogether 310 players from Nagaland, Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya are taking participating in this championship, which aim to unite all Martial Arts through Taekwondo under one umbrella of Taekwondo Board of India to help in growing the young talented players throughout India especially in Northeast Region.
Palik Bora, National Secretary and Observer, North Eastern States “All India Kishan Morcha”, Chief Advisor, Assam Motor Transport will be the special guest for second day of the tournament.
The grand closing of the event will be marked by VZ Angami, Superintendent of Police, Dimapur as guest of honour on November 1 at 3:30 pm at Dimapur Club.
