NDPP wins big in Dimapur

Dimapur, May 31: The counting of votes of the Nagaland Lok Sabha by-poll for Dimapur district has been carried out at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday.  A total of 1, 57, 493 voters cast their votes in five constituencies in the district on May 28, out of which 91, 953 votes were cast in favour of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party’s candidate, Tokheho Yepthomi.

Altogether in Nagaland, the counting of votes was conducted in 13 counting centres.

The five constituencies in Dimapur district comprised of Dimapur I, Dimapur II, Dimapur III, Ghaspani I, and Ghaspani II.

Yephthomi won in four constituencies out of five in Dimapur. He won against the Naga People’s Front candidate, C Apok Jamir by a difference of 27, 543 votes. Whereas, Jamir was able to win only in Dimapur II with 21, 720 votes against Tokheho’s 15, 404.

Speaking to the Eastern Mirror, the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel said that this time around the counting was completed without any disruptions and that the atmosphere was quite calm. Patel said that the counting was conducted only in one room which made the counting easy and free of confusions. He said there were only 78.8 polling percentage to this by-poll which was marginal as compared to last election’s 80 plus polling percentage.
