NDPP condemns assault on village chairman, his wife; Dimasa Naisho Hosom appeals for peace
The NDPP Minority Committee has condemned the alleged manhandling of chairman of Manglamukh village, Util Haflongbar, and his wife by some youths on February 21 around 9 pm.
The party’s minority wing also denounced the reported incident where the rear glass shield of a public transport bus owned by Doyapur Village Council chairman, Darjen Phonglo, was completely destroyed by miscreants at his own residence on February 20 around 2 am.
“It is learnt that Util Haflanbar, who was on his way back home after attending a funeral programme at Dhansiripar village, was confronted by some youths from Daniel village while he was at a nearby shop in his village and during the scuffle, he might have dropped his mobile phone, even as he left the spot,” stated a press release issued by media cell, NDPP Minority Committee.
The release went on to state that after realising that he had dropped his phone, Haflanbar went back to the same spot to look for his mobile phone.
However, to his shock without any provocation, the same youths who earlier confronted him manhandled him this time even, “not sparing his wife and even kicking her who had intervened just to stop them,” it stated.
“It is very disheartening to see that even in today’s day and age there are sections of people who still believe in trying to create a fear psychosis among the minority communities by threatening and intimidating them,” the NDPP minority committee stated.
“And especially during this election time one can clearly understand the reasons behind their intimidation and threatening,” it added.
The NDPP Minority Committee urged upon the minority communities in particular and all the right thinking masses in general, to strongly condemn such incidences and “not to side with any group/parties that stoop to such lowly measures and take firm decisions while exercising their precious voting rights.”
Dimasa Naisho Hosom appeals for peace, tranquility
The Dimasa Naisho Hosom (DNH), Dhansiripar sub-division, Chümoukedima district, has appealed to all the supporters and volunteers of contending candidates of 3 Dimapur-III assembly constituency to maintain peace and tranquility in all the Dimasa villages.
DNH in a press release stated that stray incidents of manhandling village leaders and damaging public property by miscreants have been reported, which should not be repeated.
“Instead of coercion and intimidation to the voters or village elders, peoples’ heart should be won by explaining the advantages and disadvantages of electing candidates. Dimasas minority status is not to be taken advantages of by anybody for suppression of their rights and desires,” the release stated.
DNH was also of the view the setting up of camps and offices by political parties were unnecessary as they only result in tensions amongst the villagers and workers of different candidates.
It also stated that the clean election slogan raised by many social and religious organisations of the state needed to be put into practice by all supporters/volunteers of contending candidates.
The Dimasa body further appealed to the government functionaries to help maintain law and order in the area during the electioneering.
