DIMAPUR — The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has welcomed the decision of the chief minister and the government of Nagaland for deferring the date of cleanliness drive in the state to September 30, instead of October 1, which falls on a Sunday.
This, the NDPP said, “speaks volumes of the maturity of the leadership and the government in ensuring that the sentiments of the people come first and foremost while at the same time also not avoiding the impotence of this awareness campaign on cleanliness”.
While lauding the call for an hour cleanliness drive, the regional party said the earlier date announced by the Centre is against the sentiments of the people of Nagaland “as it falls on a Sunday which goes against the very Christian principle of keeping the Sabbath holy”.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]“The NDPP is of the view that cleanliness is the duty and responsibility of every citizen and while it is important to educate and encourage the citizens of this importance by creating awareness, it is also equally important that the sentiments of all the citizens must be taken into consideration while undertaking such awareness programmes,” read the press statement.
The party also requested the people of the state to take part in the cleanliness drive on September 30 and “contribute towards creating awareness on the importance of cleanliness, not just in our homes, but also in or towns, villages, localities and surroundings”.
