NDPP president Chingwang Konyak tenders apology to Konyak civil society
DIMAPUR — President of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Chingwang Konyak has apologised for his remarks on the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) – Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) issue during an election rally in Wokha on April 5.
In an ‘apology undertaking,’ the NDPP leader acknowledged that he had contravened the resolution adopted by the Konyak Union (KU) on March 30, which directed all its citizens “not to engage in commentary remarks on the ENPO-FNT matter”.
Accepting responsibility for his actions, Konyak tendered his “sincerest apologies” for his indiscretion in commenting on the matter.
“I understand the gravity of my mistake and assure that such actions will not recur in the future. In accordance with the resolution and to uphold the integrity of the KU, I pledge not to engage/comment on the ENPO-FNT issue in any further canvassing or election campaign activities in my individual capacity or in the capacity of the President on NDPP, Nagaland,” he stated.
Further, he stated that he would continue to contribute his best for the uplift and progress of the eastern Nagaland people and the Konyaks.
The apology was signed in the presence of the KU vice president, Y Chingwang Wangsa, president of the Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, Ponglem Konyak, Konyak Students’ Union president T Noklem Konyak, and chairman of Sheong Village Council Z Yato Konyak.
It may be recalled that on April 6, the Konyak civil society organisations, through the KU, had summoned the NDPP leader to the Konyak Union office at Mon headquarters within 48 hours to address the violations and explain his actions.
“Failure to comply with this summon will leave the Konyak CSOs with no option but to initiate stern disciplinary action against you. We ask you to treat this matter with utmost seriousness”, the summon letter had stated.
