Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has lauded the speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, for delivering justice in the ‘most appreciable manner’ on the matter relating to the disqualification petition of seven NPF MLAs, which was further testified by the leader of the opposition, TR Zeliang.

NDPP, in a statement issued by its media and communication committee, lauded the speaker for delivering justice in the most appreciable manner without any delay unlike the past.

“Sufficient opportunities were given to all concerned parties in an equitable manner without any signs of favouritism towards any party. The Speaker has exemplified the foundations on which the NDPP stands, which is for justice and fairness,” NDPP stated.

NDPP also appreciated the leader of opposition (LoP) and former chief minister, TR Zeliang, for speaking the truth by quoting him saying, “the speaker has done justice and carried out the proceedings of the case for the first time in the history of Nagaland assembly, that he allowed both parties to examine the witnesses and to cross examine the petitioners by the respondents lawyers and the petitioners lawyers were allowed to cross examine the respondents’ witnesses”. Zeliang was further quoted as saying, “the Speaker has done fairly; for the first of its kind which was never done in the past.”

Putting on record the observation of the LoP, NDPP stated that the speaker had upheld justice, thereby highlighting the fact that justice was not delivered in the past.

It recalled how the former NPF speaker, in the 12th NLA, had blatantly disqualified four BJP legislators, the decision which was later overturned by the court.

“With the Leader of Opposition categorically stating that the proceedings were held in a fair manner for the first time in NLA history, he has straightened the record and acknowledged the partisan conduct of his own party Speaker in the past,” the statement read.

NDPP further reaffirmed to stand for justice and fairness in its committed service to the people.
