NDPP Kohima region conducts sports meet

Kohima, 24 June (EMN): Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Kohima region organised a one-day inter-assembly constituency (AC) sports meet-cum-get-together at IG Stadium in Kohima on Friday.

During the meet, NDPP 9 Kohima town AC blanked Chief Minister XI 3-0 in the football (men) to claim the championship title. Mupili, Metekhrielie Mejura and Bokavi scored for 9 Kohima Town and secured INR 50,000 as the champion.

Comprising of players including NDPP legislators — Medo Yhokha, Niekiesalie Kire, Zale Neikha, Keneizhakho Nakhro — the Chief Minister XI had to be content with INR 35,000 as the runner-up.

It may be mentioned that Metekhrielie Mejura, who is also the working president of 9 Kohima town scored five goals in three matches along with the credit of being the only hat-trick scorer and highest scorer of the tournament.

In volleyball (women), NDPP 14 Southern Angami – I AC defeated NDPP 15 Southern Angami – II AC to emerge victorious. 14 Southern Angami received INR 30,000 as the champion, while 15 Southern Angami received INR 20,000 as the runner-up.

Avio Tetso, President of NDPP Kohima region informed that the objective of organising the competition was to foster unity and better understanding amongst the party leaders and workers, while encouraging youngsters to indulge in sporting activities.

Metsubo Jamir, NDPP legislator and minister of Rural Development, who also attended the event, reminded participants on the need to live up to their party motto which emphasised on actions rather than words.

He also stressed on the importance of unity without which the party is “useless” while reminding that ‘to win or lose in the day’s competitions’ was not important but solidarity and better coordination among the participants was more essential and vital.

Impressed with the initiative taken by Kohima region in organising meaningful events, which brought party workers together in huge numbers, Jamir expressed keen interest to conduct such activities in Mokokchung district for the party men and women.

Observing critical situations developing in the neighbouring states, Neikiesalie Kire, NDPP legislator from 9 Kohima town reminded the gathering not to forget the almighty who gave them a pleasant occasion to come together and enjoy the day.

Confirming to contest in the next election on the occasion, he stressed on the need to conduct more events for both young and old alike in the days ahead for the party workers to get closer and be in touch with each other.

To be prepared for the crucial moments ahead, he asked party men and women to start carrying out their roles and responsibilities.

Distributing prizes to the winners, Zhaleo Rio, advisor of Excise, Sericulture and Minority, while stating that games and sports have a huge impact in the society, expressed optimism that Nagas could slowly catch up with the world in the various disciplines.

Observing that players from all constituencies have come together and competed in the games with a spirit of sportsmanship, Rio, who is also the legislator of NDPP from Ghaspani – 2  AC, asked them to exhibit the same zeal for the upliftment and betterment of the party.

Expressing happiness over the recent political developments, wherein scores of NPF legislators joined NDPP, he hoped that more would join the political party.

While hoping that NDPP Kohima region would strengthen and set example for the rest of the party in the state, he further apprised that the party would expand its horizon even in districts like Chümoukedima and Dimapur.

It was informed that the chief minister of Nagaland could not make it to the occasion as he was travelling to Delhi to attend meetings.
