NDPP Jangpetkong denounces booth capturing allegations, demands proof
DIMAPUR — The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) unit of 29 Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency on Tuesday refuted the Congress party’s allegations of ‘booth capturing’ threat.
“We deem the allegation as a well-calculated strategy of the Congress party to vitiate and malign our party, with the malicious intention to gain unfair advantage by creating fear psychosis in the minds of the electorate,” it said in a letter to the Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO).
On April 15, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) had lodged a formal complaint with the state Chief Election Officer claiming that the NDPP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters were preparing for ‘booth capturing’ in at least 12 assembly constituencies including Jangpetkong.
However, the NDPP Jangpetkong maintained that it has consistently advocated for free, fair, and peaceful elections throughout their campaign.
Terming the allegations as a ‘cheap and malafide political manoeuvre’, the NDPP Jangpetkong urged the DEO to demand that the NPCC produce proof and substantiate their allegation before the polling date.
“If the NPCC fails to substantiate their allegation against us, we will be compelled to seek legal remedies,” it added.
