Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union meets Nitin Gadkari, proposes North-East Contractors Forum and invites him to golden jubilee celebration in 2025.

DIMAPUR — The members of the Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union (NCSU) met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur recently, where they proposed the establishment of a North-East Contractors Forum (NECF) and invited him to their upcoming golden jubilee celebration.
A four-member delegation led by Pele Khezhie conveyed appreciation to Gadkari for his leadership and commitment towards strengthening infrastructure in Nagaland, particularly under the Act East vision, stated an update.
According to the NCSU, approximately 1,670 km of National Highways are now operational in Nagaland. It stated that 33–34 National Highways have been sanctioned, and 25 ongoing NHIDCL projects, covering about 469 km, are under active execution with a combined investment of around INR 7,711 crore.
During the meeting, the NCSU proposed the establishment of NECF to bring together contractors and developers from all Northeastern states under a unified platform. The forum aims to act as a mechanism for grievance redressal, fair representation, and coordinated engagement with central and state authorities.

Besides promoting capacity building, upskilling, quality standards, and best practices, enabling contractors to deliver projects more efficiently, it was mentioned that the forum would align regional development with the Act East policy, ensuring that infrastructure growth is inclusive, transparent, and community-focused.
Gadkari welcomed the proposal and assured his full cooperation, expressing his willingness to inaugurate the forum and extend continued support for its functioning.
The delegation formally invited the union minister to attend the NCSU's 50th year (golden jubilee) celebration in 2025. The union expressed that the launch of the NECF during the jubilee would be a historic milestone.
The union further appealed to all contractors’ associations across the Northeast to join the initiative. It also shared that it is collaborating with a Bengaluru-based consultant team for data compilation and to conceptualise the development of the forum.
