DIMAPUR: In the light of recent fake videos of attacks on migrant workers from North India in Tamil Nadu, which has fueled fear in the country even the northeast region, the Naga Christian Fellowship (NCF), Chennai, has urged for calm and not to panic stating that the situation in Tamil Nadu is peaceful and under control.
In an update, the pastor of NCF Chennai and president of North East India Welfare Association Chennai (NEIWAC), Wapangtoshi, stated that some unwarranted messages in the context of Northeast people with regard to the situation in Chennai surfaced on various social media platforms in Nagaland in the past few days which has created fear and confusion among the people resulting in a large number of phone calls and queries from Nagaland.
To take stock of the situation, Wapangtoshi stated on March 16, he had a meeting with Sankaralingam, assistant commissioner of police at Greater Chennai Police Commissionerate, and shared the concerns of the current situation. He added that the matter of unauthorised message circulated on various social media platforms in Nagaland was also discussed.
Meanwhile, the assistant commissioner of police informed him that the situation in Tamil Nadu is peaceful and under control. He has appealed to all the Northeast people not to worry about the situation in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu saying that Tamil Nadu Police are one of the most efficient police forces in the world.
He also informed that the Tamil Nadu Police had already arrested some perpetrators and booked several people for posting fake videos and ‘provocative’ tweets about unsubstantiated allegations of attacks on migrant workers from the North India.
