Dimapur, Jan. 8 (EMN): The Mokokchung unit of Nagaland Fire and Emergency Service (NFES) conducted a demonstration-cum-training in fighting fire disaster for the members of National Cadet Corps (NCC), who are currently undergoing the combined annual training camp (CATC) at Fazl Ali College in Mokokchung district.
The event was part of the combined annual training camp (CATC) being conducted by 25 Naga Bn NCC since January 5. The demonstration-cum-training was conducted by the sub-inspector, Mayang, and his team. An update from NCC stated that the lecture-cum-demonstration was followed by hands-on practice for the cadets.
It stated that NFES personnel acquainted with the types of fire and the equipment that are to be deployed to put off the fire by using tools including fire extinguisher, sand, water, ceiling hooks etc. The cadets were made to practice the use of various types of fire extinguishers that were put on display.
It stated that common causes of domestic fire like cooking gas cylinder leakage, electrical short circuit and fires caused by smoking of meat were explained by SI Mayang.
It added that an innovative method of putting off a gas cylinder fire using a plastic bucket won loud applause from the girl cadets.
The highlight of the demonstration was the practice of handling high pressure water jet powered by a fire tender, which was enjoyed by the cadets. Besides, various methods of rescue and first aid were also explained to the cadets and made to practice fire man’s lift and first aid.
Meanwhile, the cadets have satisfaction on the variety of life skills training imparted to them.
