Dimapur, Feb. 6 (EMN):
The Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) is the only association that has hosted 12 matches (plate group), the highest in the country to host in a single ground till date.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, joint secretary of NCA Adihur Rahman informed that the upcoming match to be played at the Sovima Cricket Stadium in Dimapur will be the 13th match. Being an official association of the Cricket Control Board of India (BCCI), Rahman said that the NCA picked up well last year when it came to planning various ways to develop the sport in the State.

“Practice pitches in various districts have been set up for youngsters to get acquainted with the sport,” Rahman said. Practice pitch at Tseminyu is said to be completed whereas those in Dimapur, Peren and Mokokchung are nearing completion.

Rahman further informed that the NCA will be conducting inter-school under-15 and under-18 tournaments in all the districts, which will be followed by inter-district tournaments as well as inter-club tournaments.

“This year the inter-club tournament will have eight clubs from Nagaland, four from the Northeast and another four from outside Northeast,” informed Rahman.
Maintaining that it will take time to make the cricket stadium a-state-of-the-art ground equipped with all types of amenities and facilities, the teams have been doing reasonably well in the matches played so far.

“The senior cricket team have learned a lot in the last six months and have gained much experience, also because of the three professional cricketers we got,” said Rahman.
