Kohima, Sep. 1 (EMN): The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has reduced the syllabus of classes 10, 11 and 12 for the academic session 2020.

In a notification issued on Tuesday, the board stated that 2020 has been a ‘challenging year for the whole humanity due to the Covid-19 pandemic’ and has forced the closure of schools; thereby, disturbing the course of formal learning.

Stating that the pandemic has changed ‘the way we live, think and work’, the NBSE said there is a need to move forward with new initiatives to cope with the new challenges by revisiting the existing system and making it relevant.

Consequently, it has taken measures for reduction of existing syllabus ranging from 20% to 30% in different subjects for the sole purpose of conducting the final examination in order to reduce the workload of the students and compensate the lost teaching days, the board announced.

The notification also informed that the chapters/topics that are removed from the syllabus have been listed on the board’s official website.

It had categorically stated that the reduction is applicable for the academic session 2020 only, and added that ‘the revised mark distribution unit/chapter-wise, the design of the question paper subject-wise along with the internal assessment areas and guidelines are enclosed’.

The heads of institutions have been instructed to maintain record of all activities of the schools, be it external or internal; and further added that the internal marks of the students must be recorded and maintained.

Further, it said that homework, assignments and projects that can be done at home should be given out at regular intervals and added that there should be regular assessment/test to check the students’ learning outcomes.
