NBSE prohibits electronic cigarettes

DIMAPUR — In pursuance to the directive of Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has prohibited electronic cigarettes and like devices vide Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (production, manufacture, import, export, transport, sales, distribution, storage and advertisement) Act, 2019 in the interest of public health.

It stated that e-cigarettes pose a major threat to health, particularly among young children.

It mentioned that an electronic cigarette or vape is a device that simulates tobacco smoking which contains potentially harmful substances such as nicotine, lead and cancer-causing agents.

The notification stated that availability/ use of electronic cigarettes in the premises of educational institution must be kept in check. It urged to educate and sensitise students and teachers about the menace as well as the above Act.

It also suggested conducting special drives through random frisking at school levels to ensure that such product are not being used or sold.

In this regard, all registered schools under NBSE are requested to inform and issue necessary instructions to their students to refrain from using such products.
