Yingli College, Longleng organises national seminar on ‘Tribal culture and identity in India.’

DIMAPUR — A one-day national seminar on ‘Tribal culture and identity in India,’ was held at Borgohain Hall Yingli College, Longleng, on October 16, with Dr. Parag D Parobo, Associate Professor in the Department of History, Goa University, as the main speaker.
The seminar was sponsored by the Directorate of Higher Education, State Level Quality Assurance Cell (SLQAC), Nagaland, a DIPR report stated.
In his inaugural lecture delivered online, Dr. Parobo presented a comprehensive overview of tribal culture and identity, tracing its evolution through pre- and post-colonial periods.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. T Temsu Imti, Principal of Yingli College, underscored the importance of cultural preservation, encouraging students to seize opportunities to learn and preserve their tribal culture and identity amidst rapid global changes. He also thanked the Department of Higher Education for the crucial sponsorship.
The Inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Kekhriengulieu Tachu, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, while Dr. A Rahman, Associate Professor, Department of History, delivered the keynote address.
The program commenced with the college anthem and invocation by Phenmei B Phom, Assistant Professor of Sociology, followed by a cultural performance featuring a folk song by BA 1st semester students. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Vice Principal Dr. B Henshet Phom.
The academic programme featured two technical sessions: Session 1 explored ‘The Phom Nagas' culture, oral narratives, and identity,’ while Session 2 examined ‘Transition from tradition to modernity and cultural continuities.’
