DIMAPUR — A total of 263 cases were disposed of out of the total 1,217 cases listed for compromise settlement in the third quarterly National Lok Adalat for the year 2023, which was held in 11 district headquarters and organised by the respective district legal services authorities (DLSAs).

A press release from the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority mentioned that on the occasion, 11 sitting benches were constituted in the respective district headquarters.

The core aim of the people’s court arrangement was to settle disputes or cases at the pre-litigation stage, that is, before the case is filed in court, as well as some pending cases in the court of law that are admissible under the Lok Adalat regulation, through compromise and amicable means.

It included cases in the pending and pre-litigation stages, primarily in the categories of bank recovery, Motor Accident Cases Tribunal (MACT), and other cases such as telephone bills and matrimonial disputes.

Kohima: The third National Lok Adalat was held at the District Court building in Kohima, with Nokshei Kano, Secretary and Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kohima, as the presiding officer and panel lawyers from Kohima DLSA serving as conciliators.

In total, 966 pre-litigation bank and telephone recovery cases, as well as four pending bank recovery cases, were presented to the adalat, with 34 bank recovery cases and 16 telephone bill recovery cases settled for a total of INR 29,55,784.

Through the conciliators’ negotiations, the banks and telephone authority waived INR 33,44,781.

Dimapur: Dimapur DLSA organised the National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex. The sessions began with a briefing from CJM and DLSA Secretary Seyielenuo Mezhü (NJS), and 58 cases were disposed of with a settlement amount of INR 1,11,81,536.

Longleng: Longleng DLSA conducted the National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex Complex, Longleng, along with the State Bank of India (SBI), Longleng.

The Lok Adalat was presided over by CJM and DLSA Secretary Khrievono Seletsu, with panel lawyer Panglang Y Phom and PLVs in attendance. During the sessions, 10 bank recovery cases at pre-litigation were disposed of with a total settlement amount of INR 5,05,686.

Wokha: Wokha DLSA conducted the National Lok Adalat at the front office, District Court Complex, Wokha, with Nino Iralu, District and Sessions Judge cum DLSA Chairperson, as the presiding officer.

Panel lawyers Meribemo A Lotha and Shanchobeni P Lotha served as conciliators, and panel lawyer Jacob Kikon, PLV Abigail Lotha, and Daisy Tungoe participated in the Lok Adalat.

Representatives from the Central Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, SBI, and Nagaland State Co-operative Bank (NStCB) were present at the Lok Adalat. A total of 10 cases were taken up, out of which nine were loan or bank recovery cases (pre-litigation) and one was a pending trial case. Nine out of the 10 cases were disposed of with a settlement amount of INR 15,88,59.

Zunheboto: Zunheboto DLSA conducted the third quarterly National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, Zunheboto.

Julian Sitlhou, JMFC cum DLSA Secretary, was the presiding officer, and Easter Yepthomi was the Conciliator. Altogether, 30 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up during the adalat and disposed of with a settlement amount of INR 21,67,542.

Mokokchung: The National Lok Adalat was held at the District Court in Mokokchung by DLSA Mokokchung.

During the adalat, out of the total cases taken up, 10 were at the pre-litigation stage and one was at the pending stage. Nine cases were disposed of with a settlement amount of INR 13,09,891.

Tuensang: Tuensang DLSA held the National Lok Adalat at the District Court premises in Tuensang, with presiding officers Longshithung Ezung, Principal District and Sessions Judge, cum Chairperson DLSA, and Cheliam Khiamniungan, JMFC, cum Secretary DLSA.

Antimangyang Chang, retainer lawyer, Herola, panel lawyer, and Birila, panel lawyer, served as conciliators, assisted by PLVs. During the event, 12 cases were taken up and 11 were disposed of, for a total settlement amount of INR 17,13,166.

Phek: Phek DLSA conducted the adalat at the District Court Complex, Phek.

The Lok Adalat was presided over by District and Sessions Judge NeikoAkami, with a retainer lawyer and a panel lawyer serving as conciliators.

A total of 40 bank recovery cases, including SBI and NStCB pre-litigation cases, were taken up and settled for a total of INR 40,62,334.

Peren: Peren DLSA conducted the National Lok Adalat at Government College, Peren town.

The NStCBJalukie branch, along with the SBI Peren Town branch, participated in the LokAdalat for pre-litigation cases, where 28 cases were taken up and settled for a total of INR 42,36,515. Students from Government College Peren were also invited to observe the LokAdalat proceedings.

Mon: Mon DLSA also held the National Lok Adalat, which was presided over by CJM cum DLSA Secretary B Peter Resu as the presiding officer and Topha Konyak, N Mannon, and Angun Konyak as the conciliators. 

In total, 46 cases were heard during the session, with 16 of them being successfully resolved for a total settlement amount of INR 17,06,978.
