National Highway 29 traffic opens for goods trucks

DIMAPUR — Traffic on the landslide-affected National Highway 29 has been opened from Friday for heavy vehicles ferrying essential commodities.

In an order, the Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima informed that those heavy trucks would be allowed to ply from Chathe Bridge (Patkai Jn.) to New Chümoukedima on an hourly basis, depending on the structural integrity of the road and weather conditions. Traffic personnel would be there to regulate their single-lane movement.

“Only light vehicles can ply from Chümoukedima Town (Old Check Gate) to New Chümoukedima via Old Chümoukedima Village Road”, it informed.

An update from DIPR also informed that all efforts are being made to “restore the roads and bring normality to the disaster-hit areas” on NH 29.

It informed that the Western Sumi Hoho and the Western Sumi Youth Front, led by their respective presidents, visited the disaster-hit areas at Pherima to show solidarity and sympathise with the people affected by the landslide.
