DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 10
The Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. today inaugurated a 14 days National Handloom Expo at Naga Shopping arcade with Parliamentary Secretary Industries and Commerce, Amenba Yaden (Retd IFS) as the chief guest.
The expo is being organized under the sponsorship of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Minsitry of Textiles, Govt. of India.
During the short inaugural programme, Amenba Yaden highlighted that such handloom not only aims to promote sales of handloom product but also to preserve, protect and promote the age old weaving heritage of our country.
He said such Handloom expos are platforms where handloom societies/ weavers converge together to form a platform where they can market their products besides sensitizing the customers about the latest designs and varieties of handloom/textiles products within and outside the state of Nagaland while highlighting that ‘such events also acts as direct interface between the buyers and the producers that enables the customers to buy genuine products.’
He said handloom sectors are also a means of generating employment revenues especially for the rural areas.
The chief guest also urged upon all the upcoming generations to carry forward and popularize the traditional Handloom sector.
The 14 days National Handloom Expo will culminate on November 24.
Altogether 100 stalls are being put up at the expo where people from various states of India like Assam, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, etc. are participating in the expo.
Along with the expo, the 14 days even will also witness other special attractions like Tambola game every evening from 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm and cultural and Musical events on every alternate evenings.
