Dimapur, March 5(EMN): A national handloom expo under the North Eastern Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS), organised by the Directorate of Handloom and Textile, government of Assam, and sponsored by office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, government of India, got underway today at Urban Haat.

The expo was inaugurated by Zakabo V Rotokha, managing director of Nagaland Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation (NHHDC).

The assistant director of Weavers’ Service Dimapur, Jambhulker, informed that weavers from three states including Assam, Nagaland and Manipur are participating in the expo. He added that 40 stalls comprising five from Assam, four from Manipur and 31 from Nagaland have been put up in the expo.

The objective of the expo, according to him, was to give a marketing platform to the weavers. “This is a promotion of handloom products for marketing and giving platform for the weavers because they do not have much platform for marketing,” he said.

Speaking on the theme ‘Pavilion,’ he stated that it is organised by the government of India to display items which are developed in the office and not for sale. It is related to research and developmental works of handloom, he said. The 15-day expo would culminate on March 18.
