National Games: Manipur bags one gold, one silver on day-8
IMPHAL — Manipur’s taekwondo player Priyanka Leitanthem added one more gold medal in women’s 62 kg category on Thursday of the ongoing 37th National Games in Goa taking the medal tally to 30.
Earlier in the day, state cyclist Yanglem Rojit Singh added one more silver medal.
Rojit clocked 1:03:891 in 1000 metre race to win silver medal, while David Beckham of Andaman & Nicobar Islands clocked 1:02:197 to secure gold medal. The bronze medal went to VS Kungalaguthi of Karnataka (1:05:105).
On Wednesday, athletes from the state added three silver medals in the tally.
Th Priya and H Tendenthoi sealed silver medal in the women’s double scull competition (rowing) taking 6:54.60 (six minutes 54.60 seconds) in the final race.
Priya, Tendenthoi along with Mayengbam Merina and Thoudam Aruna also won silver medal with a 6 minutes and 41.30 seconds finish in the women’s quadruple scull competition.
Umelly Mangsatabam, who won silver medal earlier in the women’s poomsae individual, clinched another by pairing up with Nongdaren Khaba in the mixed pair poomsae competition.
The men’s and women’s Sepaktakraw Regu event sailed through to enter the semi final at the Fatorda Multipurpose Hall. Both Manipur team would take on Assam both in men’s and women’s Regu event.
In men’s football, Manipur lost to Kerala 3-1 at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, Goa today. Manipur is placed in Group B along with Kerala, Meghalaya and Maharashtra, while Group A has Karnataka, Services, Punjab and Goa.
In its previous match, the state squad kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 success against Meghalaya.
