The country has embarked on a mammoth mission called Digital India under which it aims to ensure that Government services are made available to citizens electronically by improving online infrastructure and by increasing Internet connectivity.
The initiative includes plans to connect rural and urban India with high-speed internet networks. Digital India has three core components. These include namely the creation of digital infrastructure, delivering services digitally and digital literacy.
As part of the 3rd component, the centre has created a scheme entitled ‘Digital Saksharta Abhiyan’ or ‘National Digital Literacy Mission’ (NDLM) which aims to make every household of the country Digital Literate by the year 2020.
Under this scheme, one person in each household in selected blocks in each State/Union Territory is proposed to be trained in digital literacy relevant to the need of the trainee, which would enable the beneficiary to use IT and related applications to participate effectively in the democratic process and enhance their livelihood.
As part of the national program, the National Digital Literacy Mission training program got officially launched in Kohima on November 7 under the guidance the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima. The event was conducted in the conference hall of the DC office.
The event, which was presided over by the DC of Kohima and attended by the IT faculty of major government and private schools. Deputy Commissioner Ruovilatuo Mor asked all the stakeholders to collaborate, co-ordinate and co-operate with the mission officials. He also asked the IT faculties of the schools to include the NDLM course curriculum as part of their teaching content and ensure that eligible students appear and clear the online digital literacy test.
Jitu Bora, OSD for Career CliniQ, introduced the audience to the aspects of Digital India. This was followed by the formal exchange of memorandum of understanding between Career CliniQ and NIELIT.
This was followed by the keynote address which was delivered by L Lanuwabang, director of NIELIT of Kohima. He informed that the NDLM program undertaken by NIELIT and Career CliniQ, seeks to attune to the vision of the nation-wide digital India campaign to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.
He also stressed on how technology and digital devices are reshaping people’s lives in all arenas and how it is increasingly becoming indispensable. He also emphasized on the easy access of various cost-effective digital services rendered by the centre and the state government like the digital Locker, NBSE online verification of mark sheets, NPSC online application modes, state portal, scholarship websites, other e-Governance services, etc.
He apprised and guided the nodal officers on the Dos and Don’ts of the program and emphasized about performance being the key towards rewards. Dr. Anirban Choudhury, Project Head for east and south India, explained the phase-wise implementation strategy for the project.
He appealed to all stakeholders to collectively work towards achieving the mission of making Nagaland a 100% digital literate state. He clarified that Career CliniQ’s role would be more of a catalyst and that the real involvement would be required by the various institutions and education officers.
The event concluded with a collective promise from all the stakeholders that together they would all worked in a phased manner towards achievement of the common objective of a Digital Literate Nagaland.
