Dimapur, August 10 (EMN): National Deworming Day was observed at Good Shepherd High School, Kiphire on August 10. The programme was organised by Chief Medical Office staff (NHM) Kiphire.
During the programme, Dr. Rebecca Y Sema (RCH/UIP) gave an overview of the programme and said that the National Deworming Day is observed because there are so many ill effects of worm infestation in our body especially amongst children of 1-19 years. She said worm infestation adversely affect not only our physical health but also mental development.
Albendazole tablet were distributed to the students during the morning assembly.
The programme was chaired by Leshikho, principal of the school, T.V Thomas, welcomed the medical team while a special number was presented by class 9 students and benediction was pronounced by Kakiho.
The medical team informed that the National Deworming Day will be followed by a mop-up day on August 17, to cover children who might be left out during the administration of to ensure maximum coverage.
Meanwhile, one-day training for the Chief Medical Office staff (NHM) Kiphire was organised on August 8, on account of National Deworming day with Dr. Rebecca Y Sema, District Programme Officer (RCH/UIP) as the resource person.
Dr. Rebecca Y Sema, sensitized the participants on the importance of deworming and the correct dosages to be given out to children.
Dr. Tinurenla, Dy.CMO delivered welcome address and urged the members to render their support for successful implementation of the programme.
It also informed that during the program, children between 1 to 19 years will be dewormed with administration of Albendazole chewable tablets in all schools (both government and private) and Anganwadi centres.
