Mokokchung district observed National Dengue Day with extensive awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives, and source reduction activities across all blocks.

DIMAPUR — The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme observed National Dengue Day in the Mokokchung district on May 16 on the theme “Community participation for dengue control: Check, clean and cover".
According to an update, dengue awareness activities on signs and symptoms, modes of transmission, and preventive measures were conducted across all the blocks, namely Mangkolemba, Tuli, Alongkima, Tsurangkong, and Changtongya.
A dengue awareness programme was also conducted at the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office by Dr. Martula Lemtur.
Cleanliness drives were carried out in all health units and surrounding areas as part of source-reduction activities. The activities included draining unwanted stagnant water from flower pots, water containers, discarded cans, tyres, gutters, and other stagnant water collection sites to eliminate mosquito breeding places and help prevent and control dengue.

MTS and ASHAs also conducted house-to-house source reduction activities and created awareness on dengue prevention among the community members.
Further, MTS, MI, SI, community health officers, medical officers, staff nurses, and ASHAs conducted awareness talks on dengue prevention and control as part of information, education, and communication activities.
A poster campaign on dengue awareness was carried out by MTS and ASHAs in all the villages. IPC activities on dengue prevention were also conducted by the NVBDCP team and other health workers to educate the public on maintaining cleanliness and preventing mosquito breeding.
