Imphal, Aug. 23 (EMN): A four-day national conference on ‘Indian National Movement & Tribal Freedom Fighters of Manipur’ in context to the proposed ‘Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters’ museum was inaugurated in Imphal on Tuesday.
The Tribal & affairs of Hills minister Letpao Haokip inaugurated the conference in the presence of the former union minister of state for home affairs Meijinglung Kamson.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=6]Speaking on the occasion, Letpao Haokip who holds the horticulture and soil conservation portfolio appealed all intellectual tribal leaders to lead the people in a better and productive way for the welfare of the state.
He also appealed to all stakeholders of the hills to help and support the national importance initiatives in the state for the interest of the people.
He also expressed his desire to introduce a new land holding system for the people living in the hill areas in order to take up various welfare as well as income generating activities to boost the economy of the hills.
During the technical session of the first day of the conference, Dr. Jangkhomang Guite, associate professor of Manipur University and Dr. Sonthiang Haokip, associate professor of Manipur College made separate presentations on tribal freedom fighters in the INA movement, etc.
The technical session was chaired by Dr. Sheikhohao Kipgen, associate professor of Manipur College.
