Nagaland boxers lose in knockout bouts

Imphal, Oct. 29 (EMN): The 5th Junior Girls' National Boxing Championship 2022 got underway at Boxing Arena, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal after it was formally opened by Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports minister K Govindas Singh on October 28.
The vice-president of Boxing Federation of India Narender Kumar Nirwan, MLAs Th Arun kumar (Wangkhei) and Chinlunthang (Singhat) were also present during the opening function. Altogether 245 boxers across 28 states are competing in the six-day national boxing event which will conclude on November 2.
On Saturday, two Nagaland boxers lost in their knockout bouts to their respective rival pugilists.
“Both the boxers are just beginners. So it will take some time for us,” the head coach of the Nagaland team.
On the other hand, Assam’s Purabi Daimary defeated her rival Durga Spurthi Sri Satii of Andhra Pradesh 3-2 in the 60-63 kg category while Bharati of Assam lost to Tanishka Sirvi of Madhya Pradesh in the 48-50 kg category.
Manipur’s boxers Safar Chanu Mayengbam beat Kasturi Shinde of Goa in the 46-58 kg category while Anjali Devi Soibam defeated Ankitha Raj K of Karnataka in the 50-52 kg category.
In the 52-54 kg and 57-60 kg categories, Manipur’s Supriya Devi Thokchom and Sandhyarani Tensubam beat Yatri Patel of Gujarat and Jigyasa Patel of Rajasthan respectively.
