DIMAPUR — The Northern Angami Students’ Union (NASU) has raised concerns over the appointment of staff at the SAKHI-One Stop Centre in Kohima, on grounds that the posts were supposed to be filled by indigenous residents of the district.

The student union served a 13-day ultimatum to the secretary of Nagaland State Social Welfare Board to take necessary action, threatening the government of any untoward action against the department after the expiry of the specified duration.

NASU referred to prior representations and ultimatums submitted by the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) on this matter. On March 15, 2019, the ASU had submitted a representation to the Mission Director of the State Resources Centre for Women stating that the Centre Administrator, case worker and a driver were appointed and “occupied by non-indigenous inhabitants of the district.”

As practised in other districts, that the rights and privileges of indigenous tribes of Kohima district—namely, Angami and Rengma—should be retained in the grades that are permissible and entitled, ASU stated then.

Despite subsequent representations and ultimatums from the ASU, the last of which was issued on February 14, 2022, there has been no response from the government.
