KOHIMA — Minister of Women Resource Development and Horticulature, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, on Saturday stated that Naga society has transformed significantly over the past 20 years particularly with people’s minds becoming more open regarding decision-making for women.

She also acknowledged the chief minister of Nagaland and the NDPP president under whose leadership the urban local body elections were held after two decades with 33% reservation for women.

The minister stated this during a thanksgiving programme of Thejavizo Philip Solo, the unopposed elected NDPP member of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) from Ward 8 (New Market).

Highlighting on issues such as poor drainage systems and water scarcity among others, she urged all the councilors of KMC, with the cooperation of citizens, to work towards the development of their respective wards and Kohima town.

In his thanksgiving speech, Solo acknowledged the NDPP for giving him the party ticket and attributed his success to every individual in their ward.

He has committed to prioritise proper sanitation, healthcare, welfare oriented measures, equal benefits on government sponsored schemes, youth and women bodies for the overall development of the ward.

Rokobeizo Nyusou, chairman of New Market Area Panchayat, recounted how three intending candidates including Solo had sought the panchayat's blessings to contest the ULB election from the ward. He added that everyone happily accepted Solo as the unopposed candidate, making him one of the 19 elected members of KMC.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Alika Solo attributed the councilor's success to the blessings from Almighty and the support of everyone in the ward.

Kelhouneizo Yhome, general secretary of NDPP youth organisation, has termed New Market as an ‘international ward’ due to the presence of diverse communities from within and outside the country. He also acknowledged the residents for electing Solo unopposed.

He further urged everyone to continue working together cohesively and strengthen their efforts towards building the ward.
