Kohima, Dec. 29 (EMN):
Highlighting a grim picture of the contemporary Naga society, president of Kohima Chakhesang Hoho Theja Therieh today stated that Nagas have failed socially, economically, politically saying, “The whole system have collapsed and we now are in a bottom”.

Pointing out that there is disunity among the people, Therieh has hoped for a ray of hope with the dawning of a new year. He has also called for retrospection at individual level so as to correct the path and march ahead.

Therieh stated this while addressing the 67th general session of the Thenyizumi Students’ Union (TSU) as the guest of honour at GMS Thenyizu in Phek district on Tuesday.

“Now is a time if we realise our steps and decide, we can march ahead,” he said. He exuded hope that, “Political solution or no solution, definitely something is going to happen and that change is for better and not for worst.” He also called upon the people to prepare for change.

Therieh also called upon all the villages to strive towards reviving ‘the purest form of democracy’. He has sought the Naga society to revive the village life, which according to him is the backbone of a true democracy, in order to transform the whole society. He also urged the village functionaries to maintain ‘check and balance’ without bias to usher in progress and development.

While pointing the high rates of school dropouts and less enrolment in schools, he urged the teachers to rethink of their responsibilities so as to ensure quality education of every single child. He also exhorted the students to ponder on their responsibilities and prioritised their objectives while taking advantage of the advanced- virtual world to acquired knowledge and skills. He also urged the students to look beyond formal education and be skilled and trained with new age skills.

He further encouraged the students to pursue their dreams and objectives with zeal and interests to become successful in life.

The presidential address was delivered by TSU president, Veduto Theyo, wherein he placed on record that the theme for the session ‘Facing challenges and responsibilities in a new world’ was chosen to tackle the problems of unemployment among the educated youth.

On the occasion, Punuhu Dawhuo Memorial Award was also awarded to six students for excelling in HSLC examination. Speech was also delivered by Zhokhosa Dawhuo, who secured a post of agriculture inspector through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) combine technical examination.
