DIMAPUR— The Niki Sumi-led NSCN/GPRN has said that the government of Nagaland “can and must do more for our eastern brothers and sisters” in Myanmar.

“It’s an open secret known to most people that some certain individuals from Burmese occupied Naga areas are pushing for a ‘Refugee Status’ from GOI for eastern Nagas. Nagas cannot be divided on the lines of citizens and refugees. Nagas are Nagas and that no artificial geographical borders drawn by the occupying forces can make us lesser or more Naga,” read the press statement from the group.

“Nagaland state government should listen and come to their senses by taking the example of Mizoram state government, who have welcomed their brethren with open arms and are assisting them in every way possible,” it added.

The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) also asserted that it won’t allow divisive elements to divide the Nagas further.

“Time and again we, the Nagas have fallen prey to the divisive policies from within and outside; NSCN/GPRN cannot allow or encourage these elements from creating more division among us, by using the international boundary drawn without our consent by India and Myanmar,” it stated.

Condemns fraud

The group went on to claim that some “eastern Nagas from Burmese occupied Naga areas, who have lived and studied in Nagaland “, are taking undue advantage of the political crisis in Myanmar for their personal benefits.

It accused certain individuals of “indulging in fund raising for their individualistic interest claiming that the funds are meant for people suffering in Myanmar which in most case is lie.

“It is unfortunate and condemnable that the people suffering have no knowledge of what these corrupt individuals are using their name for,” it alleged.
