Dimapur, Aug. 6 (EMN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has raised concern over the “atmosphere of uncertainty” surrounding the Naga political issue despite 23 years of negotiations.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the NTC said that this has created anxiety among the Naga people.

“The Nagas in particular, have now become impatient as to how long we have to continue remaining in years of uncertainties. It is imperative that the real peace is ushered into our land through political solution. There are significant achievements during the process of the political negotiations between the GOI and the NPGs. The first was the 3rd August, 2015 framework agreement signed between GOI and the NSCN (IM) and the second was the preamble signed between GOI and the NNPGs working committee on 17th November, 2017.

“Both the agreements of the GOI and the NPGs have reportedly culminated with agreed points for settlement successfully on 31st October 2019 considering ‘all unresolved matters shall be pursued through democratic political process post-solution’. The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) calls upon all the signatories of the agreements to give sanctity to the historic documents,” the statement read.

The council expressed ‘elation’ at what it stated was the resumption of the negotiation between the interlocutor, RN Ravi, and the working committee at Chümoukedima on July 14, 2020. This resumption is a step towards achieving solution through agreement after the October 31, 2019, commitment, it added.

“The negotiations are the history in the making and the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) feels that time has now come for a new dispensation that will usher in a new era of peace and tranquillity in the land. The NTC therefore, once again urges the negotiators to expedite the process and bring it to its logical conclusion that is acceptable and honourable to all within a definite time frame,” the statement read.

The council appreciated “the dedication and sincerity” of Ravi for taking initiatives to usher in peace and security to Nagaland. It also appealed to the security forces and Naga groups to strictly adhere to the ceasefire ground rules.
