Dimapur, Nov. 07 (EMN): Dubbed as ‘mini Nagaland’ for having residents from all communities in its jurisdiction, Diphupar Lotha community celebrated their auspicious post harvest festival, Tokhu Emong on Nov. 7 at the NEZCC Stone park.
The chief guest, Jacob Zhimomi, MLA (4th Ghaspani 1 A/C) greeted all who attended the fest mentioning that the significance of Tokhu Emong and the post harvest festival Tuluni of his own Sumi tribe is the same. As culture and traditions have been passed down by forefathers, Zhimomi reminded everyone that Nagas are hard working people and work for themselves just as our forefathers did and so must remember these traditions and values even though the society is confronted by different cultures. “It is not wrong to see other cultures and admire them but at the same time we should not forget our roots, where we have come from, we will be indentified by our own culture, we will not be admired because we are rich or because we speak well or we adapted to the western lifestyle but we will be acknowledged because of our heritage, culture and values we have in us” he said.
The absence of employment in the state was also mentioned where the MLA stressed on how lavish the lifestyle of many are in the present society but were not prepared to work for it. “Nagas are very smart in employing people but the employers are jobless” he quipped as he also further made known of the high literacy rate in Nagaland and advised all to start working humbly. Lamenting the fact that Nagas, even though educated and qualified will still not be ready to work in the fields so to keep in mind the common saying “as you sow, so shall you reap”
Zhimomi urged everyone to contribute and build the State collectively which will in turn lead to competing with the rest of the country. He advised the youth to renew and repair relationships whether it was family, friends or professionally, to unite mentally, spiritually and invoke God’s blessings for a bountiful harvest this Tokhu Emong.
Reminding those who attended that he has never declined a proposal put across to him by the Lotha community, he thanked the organising committee for the privilege and time given.
Diphupar Village Council also greeted everyone during the festival including all Lothas living not only outside the district but also outside the state.
