Dimapur, March 26 (EMN): Stating that Nagas are second to none in sports, KD Vizo, principal secretary for Information Technology and Power said that Nagas are athletically gifted with the potential to excel in sports.
He was speaking at the inaugural session of the annual sports and games meet of St. John Bosco School, Khonoma in Kohima on Saturday, a press release informed.
The bureaucrat advised the young boys and girls to chase their goals in sports or any career for that matter and be prepared to put in the hard work to realise them.
Quoting the old saying “Rome was not built in a day,” Vizo asked the students and youngsters to focus on getting better every day in sports or in their career.
He also advised the parents, guardians and coaches to establish sports as an element of fun as it can go a long way in not only encouraging them but also allowing them to discover their potential.
Saying that a fundamental part of success that is often ignored is ‘failure’, Vizo said everyone fails in life and it is crucial to develop a positive mindset towards failure.
Further, the training and teamwork, which are fundamental to sports, instills qualities like patience, perseverance, discipline and leadership skills that are much needed to succeed in life, he said.
He also reminded them that one may be the most talented player but without discipline and determination, he/she will never make it to the top.
Meanwhile, touching on the history of the school, Vizo said it was started in 1966 by Fr. Felix SDB and Margaret Khare, his own sister, who served as the head teacher upto Class-II. In the earlier days even students from Dimapur and Kohima town used to study in this school, he said.
However, lamenting that in spite of being the first catholic School in Nagaland and despite the generosity of Khonoma Village, who provided sufficient land to encourage education, the enrolment of students never crossed 400 even after 56 years.
It may be appropriate to study why the growth of enrolment is too slow when there are sufficient influential people from this village, who can approach higher authorities to improve the school infrastructure and encourage more enrolment in this school, he opined.
The principal secretary also unfurled the school flag and lit the sports meet flame. Village council chairman, Ngusa Ratsa also exhorted the gathering, while principal Fr. Solomon delivered the welcome address.
Special numbers and drill display by the students’ of the school marked the inaugural session of the annual sports meet, which will conclude on March 29.
