Nagaland’s highest single-day Covid-19 spike with 90 new cases

Dimapur, July 23 (EMN): In what has been reported as the highest single-day spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in Nagaland, 90 more people tested positive on Thursday, taking the total tally of the state to 1174.

This was informed by the minister of Health, S Pangnyu Phom, through a social media update on Thursday afternoon.

“Out of 237 samples tested, 90 positive cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed.

61 in Kohima, 26 in Dimapur, 2 in Peren & 1 in Phek,” the minister tweeted.

Till date, Health authorities in Nagaland have declared 486 patients as ‘recovered’ and there were 688 active cases in the state and no death till date.

It may be mentioned that Nagaland recorded its first Covid-19 positive cases on May 25 when three returnees tested positive for the virus.

The state breached the 1000-mark positive cases on July 20 as 33 more Covid-19 positive cases were reported, taking the tally to 1021 on July 20.

As of July 23, Dimapur has the highest cases among the districts with 296 active cases, followed by Kohima with 171 active cases; Peren has 92 active cases; Mon has 91 cases; Tuensang has 10 cases; Phek has nine cases; Zunheboto has eight cases, while Mokokchung has six cases, Longleng has three cases and Wokha has one case.

According to the severity of the symptoms, out of the 688 active cases, 684 cases are asymptomatic while there are two mild cases, one moderate case and one critical case (on a ventilator).

According to Nagaland’s dashboard, as of July 23, the recovery rate of the state stands at 41.40%.
