Dimapur, July 9 (EMN): Nagaland Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on Saturday visited the site of medical college and high court complex in Kohima and reviewed the status of projects.

An update from the Raj Bhavan said that concerned over the delay in the projects, the governor “probed” the construction status of medical college and the high court.

On this, the officials briefed that COVID-19 was also one of the reasons for the delay, besides non release of fund on time and land issues that hampered the physical progress of the project.

The officials stated that the government of India had approved a grant of INR 189 crore in 2014 for the state’s first medical college based on the detailed project report (DPR) prepared and the funding pattern was 90:10 (Central and state government share).

‘In Package A (medical college within INR 189 crore), infrastructure for medical college building, girls and boys hostel (250 nos), residential apartment -200 Sqm (1 block -10 units), residential apartment -100 Sqm (8 blocks-48 units), dean residence, MS residence, sports block and library & lecture hall building (INR 30 crore funding through The World Bank) were to be covered,’ it was informed.

It added that ‘in Package B (teaching hospital), new 400-bedded teaching hospital (INR 177 crore funding through JICA), existing 100-bedded hospital up-gradation (funding through the state government), mortuary, girls and boys hostel (250 nos), and intern hostel (100 nos) were included’.

The officials assured the governor that the project would be completed soon and the Naga Hospital (Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima) would be upgraded. They added that the admissions to the medical college (likely to be renamed as Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) would start from August-September 2023 and the Naga Hospital would be used as teaching hospital during the first three years of the medical institute.

Mukhi was also apprised about the background of the high court complex.

“The work order for the construction of new high court building complex (main high court building civil works) at Kohima was allotted to contractor M/s Vilelie Khamo & son on 29-10-2012, now the stipulated target for completion is December 2022 (subjected to fund availability),” the governor was informed.

“Till date, the fund released was only 21% of the total amount, whereas the physical progress stands at 72% today,” it added.

The governor was also assured during the meeting that the main complex would be completed by the end of this year, provided fund is made available to the contractor.
