"I wanted this college to see the sunshine. I joined for this purpose. I left my central regular job and came here because I wanted this state to get a medical college of its own," Director-cum-Dean of NIMSR, Prof. Dr. Soumya Chakraborty said, in a recent interaction with Eastern Mirror.
She joined the office on December 12, 2022 after being appointed as the first director-cum-dean of NIMSR.
Recounting the initial days of her joining, she said they had to 'run up and down' as there was "hardly anything" then. Now, "it's a happening day" and this is just the beginning, she said as the college was set for induction of the first MBBS batch.
The professor went on to say that the NIMSR should be one of the premier institutes in India.
She informed that 326 posts have already been sanctioned. Of the total posts, 43 faculty posts have already been filled, while the remaining posts will be filled in a phased manner as per the requirement.
While informing that the next round of staffing is in progress, she said: "We are not leaving any stone unturned.”
Today’s induction programme will be attended by Chief Secretary J Alam; Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr Ritu Thurr; Prof. Dr. Soumya Chakraborty; students and faculty of the medical institute.
It was also informed that Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will formally inaugurate the state’s first medical college on September 6.
